6 Simple Ways to Boost Sales Motivation

Tips for Sales MotivationIt’s no secret – sales can be a grind.

Picking up the phone, dealing with rejection, and constantly pushing through until you make a sale… well, it’s not for the faint of heart.

And a lot of times, especially one those tough, rejection-filled days, you might feeling like giving it up, like calling it a day, only… the day isn’t over.

We’ve all been there.

So what can you do to boost your motivation levels when you’re feeling down? And, what can you do start off motivated, and maintain that healthy energy level all day long?

Here are 6 simple, yet powerful sales motivation tips…

1. Follow a Strong Morning Routine

The quality of your day – and your attitude – is largely determined by what you do in the mornings. If you wake up feeling groggy and exhausted, throw some clothes on, eat a sugary bowl of cereal, and head out the door, then you’re off to a pretty sub-par start.

Consider crafting your morning routine in a way that allows you to wake up with more energy, motivation, and focus.

A healthy breakfast, stretching or exercise, meditation, cold shower… find out what works for you and make a routine out of it for a consistent motivation boost.

TIP: For more morning inspiration, you can also check out books like The Miracle Morning or The Miracle Morning for Salespeople which lay out an easy guide for building an awesome morning routine.

2. Set Specific Goals

Goal setting is great for motivation. Not only are you giving yourself something to work towards… you’re also keeping yourself accountable.

Develop targets that you strive for. You can have daily goals, weekly goals, monthly goals, and beyond.

A goal can be performance based (ie. closing X sales this month), or effort based (make 250 cold calls this week). Both are important. Write down your goals, and refer to them when you need a boost of motivation.

3. Have a Grand Vision

A vision, like a goal, is something you work towards. But it’s emotional rather than rational. Something that you can close your eyes and visualize.

It’s great to have a vision for your life, and/or career. Perhaps it’s that corner office with a great view. A dream home. Or a vacation that you can’t wait to take.

When it comes to crafting a vision, think big.

Keep that vision in mind while making cold calls (you can even post a picture in your work-space that represents it), and understand that every cold call or follow-up you make can get you closer to fulfilling that vision.

4. Listen to a Sales Podcast

Podcasts are a great way to get a quick dose of sales motivation. And they may just provide you with the advice you need to turn your day around.

Since most of us are never without our phones they’re super accessible too.

Here’s a list of some sales podcasts you might want to check out.

5. Take a Break

If your motivation is lagging, sometimes a break is all you need.

Get up and walk around. Grab a drink or snack. Stretch. No matter what your results are, if you put forth the effort… that break is well deserved.

Just keep in mind that there’s a fine line between a break and procrastination. Breaks should be earned, and have limits.

6. Take Pride in “NO”

No’s are a part of sales. A big part.

Even more importantly, the vast majority of sales occur after multiple exposures and multiple contacts. In other words, no’s are needed to get to yes!

A great way to visualize it is to see “no” as a rung on a ladder to “yes.”

They have value. They’re a sign of effort. Effort that you can be proud of.
